During the Senoia City Council Candidate Forum this past Friday evening, a question was asked about the status of the Coweta Street Park Initiative.

Doug Kolbenschlag, the chairman of the Coweta Street Park Committee posted an update on the We Love Senoia Facebook Group.

The text of Doug's response is included in its entirety below:

"First, I want to thank the Bucks for hosting last night's candidate forum. and for the candidates sharing their backgrounds and vision for Senoia. Informed voters make good voters.

I also want to share some additional details around the question about the Coweta Street Park Initiative.

As the questioned stated, the initiative was kicked off in 2022 and the vision is to renovate the Housing Authority park, which is bordered by both the Housing Authority property and private property.  The end in mind will be a Park open to all of Senoia, located on the North side of town, and complementing Senoia's other two parks.

The Initiative is a project of the Coweta Community Foundation (CCF), a 501c3, State licensed, annually audited non-profit.  The CCF has been assisting the Coweta community since 1997 providing training, support and grant funding for Coweta's non-profits, including some local Senoia non-profits, Senoia Historical Society, Senoia Optimist Club and I-58. They were the primary fundraising conduit for Newnan's March 2021 EF4 Tornado Recovery effort, including the organizing Alan Jackson's Tornado Fundraising Concert.

All financial donations for the Initiative have been collected by the CCF in a restricted account earmarked for the renovation of the Park.  While no funds have been disbursed to date that will be changing very shortly.   The renovation of the park's basketball court was started earlier this week and weather permitting should be completed by the end of the year.

The expansion of the existing play area, new equipment, ADA accessibility, benches, tables and walkway will begin next year with expected completion by the end of the year.

The community has been very generous in its donations and we are at 88% of our fundraising goal to complete the park as currently planned. We anticipate reaching the complete funding goal in first quarter 2025. The current budget is $380,000, not including the land, which the Housing Authority plans to donate to the City.
